OTI maintains a database of fatal accidents investigated by road accident investigation teams and compensation paid by insurance companies from motor liability insurance. The databases comprise:

  • around 250 fatal accidents and
  • around 100,000 traffic accidents per year.

Customers of our information service typically include the authorities and representatives of schools and the media. We supply the required material and assist with the interpretation of the material. The material provided through the information service is typically cross-tabular data where individual accidents cannot be identified.

You are welcome to contact us even with difficult questions, as there is a wide variety of information available. If we cannot provide assistance ourselves, we can forward the question to our network of specialists. For example, statistics from the Finnish Workers' Compensation Centre supplement our information for data concerning professional drivers as well as bicycle accidents related to commuting.

Materials are also provided for the purposes of statistical or scientific research and the traffic safety work of the authorities. Read more from page Supplying material for research purposes.

The person in charge of the OTI information service is Esa Räty, Road Safety Manager, tel. +358 40 922 1365.
